Step into Care
Do you work in social care?
Step into Care
Could your social care organisation be the next one to host Step into Care applicants who have the right values and transferable skills?
Step into Care is a fully funded adult social care recruitment programme, which acts as an additional tool for providers to use alongside more conventional ways of recruiting. After learners complete an informative six-week training course, gaining an introduction into social care, the ultimate goal is for you to hire those talented individuals as part or full time staff within your organisation.
As a social care provider you have a commendable set of values, and through Step into Care there is an emphasis on ensuring that our applicants understand and share these values. You can assess whether they’re right for your team during their volunteer hours, potentially finding a future colleague in the process.
Step into Care acts as an added recruitment tool for employers to use alongside conventional ways of recruiting, saving time in advertising vacancies, reviewing applications and interviewing.
The GM employability project manager, works closely with each organisation to understand your values and the services you provide. Local applicants will be matched to vacancies based on their values and aspirations.
It’s a fully funded programme with no cost involved for you as a provider.
Enhanced DBS applications are carried out for every applicant prior to their placement as part of the Step into Care service.
Treat their placement as a working interview; support, observe and give constructive feedback to the applicant. If you feel they are suitable for the role, you can discuss paid employment and working hours with them.
Email the Step into Care team to discuss your current vacancies email@example.com They will explain the next steps for your vacancies to be considered for the programme. You can also search #GMStepintoCare on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram
It’s a good idea to assign a ‘working buddy’ to the applicant, someone the applicant can shadow, offering them support and guidance. Make sure they understand what’s required of them with a local induction and be there to answer any questions they may have.
‘We are so proud as a service that we’ve been able to be part of your good work. It is not just making a difference to us as a service by gaining the benefit of these genuinely caring people, but it is making a difference to those you are helping to find a role they really enjoy.’ - Dale Ward, Chief Operating Officer Equilibrium Healthcare.
