Callum
Care Assistant
Hi I'm Callum, I completed the Step into Care programme and I am now employed as a Care Assistant.
What were you doing before you enrolled onto the Step in Care programme?
I had been looking for work in the health and social care environment for some time but had been unsuccessful to date
Can you give a brief overview of the training you completed with WEA?
I completed different qualifications, gaining an introductory insight into many areas that are necessary when working in care, including the theoretical knowledge aspects of the Care Certificate.
Did you find your placement beneficial to you?
I found the placement extremely helpful as it it enabled me to get to know the job role and what would be involved, along with the opportunity to meet the residents and my co-workers at the care home leading to a permanent job.
Can you tell us a bit about your role and responsibilities, and what do you enjoy most about your job?
My role as a care assistant involves me working with elderly residents who suffer with dementia. My job responsibilities include ensuring the safety of our residents, providing the best care possible. I really enjoy talking to the residents and listening to their stories. It’s a nice feeling to know that I support in making our residents lives a little happier and more comfortable.
How do you feel the Step into Care recruitment Programme supported you?
I have nothing but great things to say about the programme. From the tutors who are so well educated and inclusive, to the Programme Manager who helped me every step along the way. The programme has changed my life as I am now in employment and I really love my job. I’m so grateful to all the wonderful people working within the programme.
What do you enjoy most about working in the adult social care sector?
I appreciate having this wonderful job! I enjoy being able to work with amazing people form the staff to the residents, were I feel valued and useful.
