Directorate Manager of Adult Theatres and Sterile Services
I’m Alison, Directorate Manager of Adult Theatres and Sterile Services, which means I am in charge of a large department of operating theatres within the Manchester Royal Infirmary and Sterile Services.
What do they do?
I receive lots of emails that I need to address, as well as monitoring the operating lists, ensuring there are no problems. I attend lots of meeting and work on projects to improve the service, liaising with lots of different teams to ensure this happens
What motivates them?
I have a background in theatres and a vision to improve the current service
What’s the best thing about their role?
Working with nurses and clinicians, making sure patients have their operations on the planned day
What’s the story of their career to date?
I trained as a nurse and worked as a scrub nurse in theatres, also working in a surgical short stay unit. I have also been a team leader for head and neck theatre and a matron in outpatients
