Craig is a Technical Support Engineer working within Medical Equipment Management Services (MEMS) servicing equipment that is used in a hospital setting and is based at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust
Upon leaving school Craig went to college gaining an intermediate qualification in engineering as well as a National Diploma in electrical and electronic engineering. Craig then started work in a warehouse as an order picker, before becoming a photocopier repairer and installer. Craig began working for the NHS 5 years ago as an Assistant Electrician before successfully gaining the role of Technical Assistant in MEMS 2 years ago and progressing to his current role of Technical Support Engineer within the MEMS team
Craig is responsible for the servicing of equipment such as nebulisers, blood pressure machines and tympanic ear thermometers, ensuring that they are serviced as needed throughout the year. Craig carries out his duties within the MEMS workshop, also working on the hospital wards when servicing equipment such as suction machines. Craig uses a quality plan to service and inspect each piece of equipment correctly and to the specification needed, ensuring that he records the services completed on the Equip computer system. Craig also attends regular housekeeping meetings to discuss equipment issues with ward staff in order to ensure that equipment is readily available and in good working order for staff to use at all times
Craig feels that the best part of his role is that every day is different which he really enjoys and is proud to be a Technical Support Engineer as he plays a big part in keeping patients safe whilst in hospital
Craig regularly completes training to ensure that he is continually kept up to date on any new equipment and is looking forward to progressing within his career in the MEMS department
