I’m Monica and I am a Podiatrist, working at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust
Podiatrists are health care professionals who are trained to prevent, diagnose, treat and rehabilitate abnormal conditions of the feet and lower limbs
I enjoy the challenge of treating people with a variety of health conditions. After going through the process of assessment and diagnosis, with just a few skilled strokes of a scalpel or use of orthotics I can immediately reduce pain, increase comfort, activity levels and the patient’s independence. It’s a good feeling
? I am a people person and I love the daily interaction with patients and my podiatry colleagues plus, the autonomy the role brings
I really love my job and but sometimes wish I had more hours in the day to get everything done! I de-stress by walking, listening to music and spending time with my family
I see patients at a local community clinic; where I trea patients with a range of chronic health conditions who are all at high risk of foot ulceration. I also see patients in an emergency clinic with a variety of foot problems. It really is a mixed bag and it’s a case of thinking on your feet as you never know what emergency foot condition will walk through the door! Some days I visit patients in their own homes too
I am extremely committed to my role and I can say that I am proud of the quality of podiatry care I provide on a daily basis
I am working towards a Master of Science in Diabetes, I hope to secure a band 7 role and become more involved in clinic-based research
