Who’s this?

Yvonne is a social worker within the Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust, working with clients in the community and in hospital who are 65 years of age and above (later life) and suffering with mental health

What do they do?

Yvonne has a case load of 30 clients that she manages to actively keep her clients in the community living in their own homes; this involves putting care packages in place to enable them to live safely within their own homes. Another part of Yvonne’s role as an approved social worker involves her assessing a person with a doctor, to establish if a person needs to be sectioned under the Mental Health Act. There is a lot of paperwork involved as a social worker and in some instances Yvonne has to go to court as part of her role. Yvonne visits her clients both in their own homes and in hospital and spends a lot of time attending meetings, making phone calls and sending emails to care agencies and support services in order to co-ordinate the care packages that her clients need. Yvonne has social work students that regularly shadow her to gain experience within the role and Yvonne oversees the students whilst they are on placement with her

Yvonne feels that the best part of her role is the part she plays in keeping someone safe and enabling them to live in the community

Where are they going from here?

Yvonne loves her role as a social worker and wants to continue to support people within the mental health sector, updating on her training to as needed to as part of her continuous professional development
