I’m Alison, a Specialist Registrar in Vascular Surgery, training to be a Vascular Consultant at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust

Why did you choose this job?

I had a flare for human anatomy and I also like doing operations!

What is the best part of your job?

The best part for me is operating and improving people’s lives

Is your job stressful and how do you cope with stress?

My job can be stressful at times. I cope with the stress because I know that I have done the best I can in any situation. Out of work, running helps me forget the stress

What does your typical day look like?

Each day is different for me; this is partly the reason why I like my job. My role varies between theatre, clinics, interventional radiology sessions, covering the wards and being on call.

What have you done that has made you most proud at work?

The proudest thing for me as that I have saved limbs and people’s lives

What do you want to achieve in the next 5 years at work?

I aim to pass my final exams and gain a consultant post within vascular surgery

What advice would you give someone who wants to do a job like yours?

I would say, never stop following your dream. With a lot of hard work and perseverance you can do anything
