Safina started her career in the NHS as a Nursing Assistant with the Learning Disability Health Service moving on to working in a Special Needs School in the Behaviour Specialist team. Safina then worked on a Cancer Services project to ensure sure people were accessing the right services after being diagnosed with cancer. Following this Safina moved onto working in Local Government within the Equality & Diversity field and began studying for a MA Degree in Promoting Equality & Managing Diversity at the University of Central Lancashire. Safina returned to the NHS three years ago, taking up her current role
Safina’s day to day work is very varied, being involved in various projects across the trust to ensure that equality and diversity is embedded into everything that people do. She works closely with managers and staff to ensure patients feel their needs are being met in a way that is appropriate for them. Safina delivers a number of training packages across the organisation on why equality and diversity is important and the benefits of getting it right, also working closely with staff to ensure they feel valued and respected. Safina is currently working on a project around disability to make sure that disabled people can access services and there are no barriers
Safina feels that the best part of her role is that every day is different, having the opportunity to work with staff, patients and communities. Safina is passionate about equality and diversity and making a real difference for people and their experiences is very rewarding to her
Safina has been doing her current role for 3 years and has always been encouraged to develop her skills and knowledge by attending various courses and programmes. Having recently completed a leadership programme, Safina would now like to progress into a management role in the future
