Scott and has worked for the NHS from the age of sixteen years’ old is now a Porter Supervisor within the Facilities department, supervising a team of twelve porters in order to deliver the service to patients 24 hours a day, at Trafford General Hospital which forms part of Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CMFT)
Upon leaving school, Scott decided to go to college to complete a qualification in IT, as well as retake his GCSE in English as he did not achieve this whilst at school. Whilst Scott was at college he began working part time as a domestic cleaner in the evenings with the NHS, later becoming full time in this role before progressing onto the position of Domestic Supervisor. Scott was then joined the porter team before successfully securing his current role of Facilities Porter Supervisor
Scott works shifts as part of his role and every day is different and always busy. Scott and his team deliver the portering requirements of the hospital in order to transport patients around the hospital to the many different departments as well as completing furniture movements, looking after medical gases that need to be changed when requested, delivering post and regular bin collections from the wards. Scott’s duties also include managing rotas and annual leave requests for his team as well as arranging external training for staff when needed and carrying out staff appraisals with his team. Scott ensures that new members of his team are trained correctly to enable them to carry out their role to the best of their ability
Scott feels that the best part of his role is being part of a great team and also the fact that patients really appreciate the service that he provides
Scott’s current role fits in well with his family life, however Scott still has aspirations to continue progressing within his career and is looking forward to his future career with the NHS
