Debbie is a Personal Assistant (PA) within the Estates department for the Estates Manager and Facilities Manager at Trafford General Hospital which forms part of Central Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT)
Debbie left school without any qualifications and becoming a single mum at a young age. Debbie had a number of part time jobs before deciding that she wanted to change her career and went to college successfully completing a number of secretarial training courses as well as a qualification in Business and Administration. Debbie also worked voluntarily at a local school in order to gain experience working with people before successfully securing a permanent position in an admin role. Once Debbie became confident in this role she applied for the position of a ward clerk and was successful in her application. Debbie went on to gain promotion due to her hard work and commitment, successfully moving onto a number of different roles within the NHS until she secured her current role of PA in 2015
Every day is different for Debbie, she manages and arranges daily meetings, ordering equipment and items for the team when needed, uploading contracts on to the electronic system, addressing emails and prioritising her dairy as necessary. Debbie takes phone calls and messages arranging appointments and meetings when required. Debbie also ensures the estates team are up to date with their mandatory training, booking them on to exterior speciality training when needed. Annual leave requests are sent to Debbie which she organises and authorises, ensuring this is diarised as necessary. Debbie uses a number of electronic systems as part of her role regularly supporting the estates help desk, adding weekly information of work completed by the team to a spread sheet to be used in a report at the end of each month
Debbie feels that the best part of her role is having a great team to work with! She has had lots of opportunities to get involved in different aspects of work that has supported her in gaining her experience to date
Debbie is happy in the current role that she is in and is really proud of how she has progressed within her career to date
Although they are a Personal Assistant now Debbie started their career as a 4, this role typically starts at Band 4 on the Agenda for Change Pay Scale.
