Lisa is a catering assistant working within a team that caters for all staff, patients and visitors at Trafford General Hospital, forming part of Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CMFT)
After leaving school Lisa went into clerical work before taking an eight year career break when she had children, Lisa then went to college to study ‘Catering for Business’ to give her some basic insight into working in catering as she really enjoyed cooking and wanted to pursue this as a career. During her time at college, Lisa successfully gained a position as a catering assistant with the NHS and has enjoyed her role in a number of hospitals before taking on her current role at Trafford General Hospital eight years ago
During her career as a catering assistant, Lisa has covered many areas such as serving food ward based, dish washing, restaurant service, preparing food and delivering food to patients. Lisa is now a Loader; she receives the menus each day from eight hospital wards and loads the mobile unit with the food relevant to each patient’s menu choice. This includes main dishes, dietary needs, mash able dishes, pureed dishes and finger foods as well as desserts and drinks as requested, the food loaded is then taken to the wards by the porters. Lisa also trays up ice cream for approximately 100 patients each day, as well as prepping salads for the restaurant. Lisa works in the hospitals restaurant at lunch time each day serving food and clearing tables as well as helping serve food on the wards if needed. Lisa works in a cold refrigerated area when preparing some foods using specially designed padded clothing that has been provided by the Trust to keep her warm.
Lisa feels that the best part of her role is the job satisfaction that she gets each day when she carries out her role in the catering department
Lisa has gained a number of qualifications in catering supported by the NHS and has aspirations to become a Chef in the future to progress in her career within catering as she really enjoys working in the food industry
