Who's this?

Lynne is a medical secretary for the clinical administration support team for the Northern Care Alliance NHS Group (NCA).

What's the story of their career to date?

Lynne worked for the NHS after leaving 6th Form College in various departments including Outpatients, A&E Reception, Appointments, Ward Clerk and Pathology Laboratory Administration. She then left the NHS due to relocation and worked in secretarial and administration roles. Lynne did Secretarial and Personal Assistant roles in the private sector before returning to the NHS. When she returned, she successfully gained her current role of Medical Secretary.

What do they do?

Lynne’s day to day activities include; checking through emails, checking her desk phone for any voicemail messages, checking for any post and dealing with this as required. Lynne liaises with her supervisor on which departments need support to type clinic dictation and types clinic letters before passing to the department Personal Assistant (PA) for checking. Lynne posts letters once signed and approved and updates department tracking logs for any tests/procedures noted during the typing of clinic letters. On a weekly basis Lynne checks if she is up to date with her mandatory training. The support team are also required to provide absence cover to personal assistants when needed which is more varied and can include dealing with patient enquiries, liaising with Doctors, Consultants and Booking and Scheduling for appointments, as well as the typing of clinic letters/notes.
