Faye is a Shared Lives carer working within the team at PossAbilities, supporting individuals by providing them with a family environment to enable them to flourish, learn new skills and integrate with society, encouraging independence
Faye grew up within a Shared Lives setting as her Mum was a Shared Lives carer too. When Faye began living in her own home she initially became a respite carer before becoming a full time Shared Lives Carer
No two days are the same for Faye, there are a number of compliant duties that need to be carried out such as administering medication, healthy diet choices, appointments and arranging transport for day service activities. She is always at the end of the phone for an emergency query or advice and manages time really well in order to run her home efficiently providing a safe and clean environment for the people she supports. Faye’s role also involves her to encourage the individuals to make healthy food choices and liaises with her placement officer to ensure action plans and records are kept up to date and followed. Faye has lots of support from the Shared Lives Scheme, receiving regular home visits and quarterly monitoring visits as well as having access to lots of training to support her in her role and feels that there is always someone from PossAbilities able to support and advise her should she need them to do so
Faye feels that the best part of her role is the knowledge that the individuals she supports are happy and content and says there is no other job satisfaction that compares to being a Shared Lives carer. Until recently Faye has been a Shared Lives carer for an individual for 27 years before making the right decision to support him into full time nursing care, Faye knows that she will keep in touch and he will always be part of family, supporting him where she can
