Mike is a Flexi Support Worker, working within the City Care Partnerships (CCP) team. Mike supports people with learning disabilities and Autism to have the opportunity to overcome potential barriers supporting them to develop and more importantly have a better quality of life
After leaving school Mike studied sport at college, upon leaving college he had a number of different jobs before deciding to work in social care, successfully applying for a vacancy at CCP as a support worker supporting three people in their own home. Mike then moved to larger service within the organisation where he gained valuable experience which has enabled him to gain promotion in his current role and he now works flexibly to support ten people in a range of activities
On a daily basis, Mike assists the people that he supports to get ready for the day ahead completing morning tasks. Mike then supports with daily activities which can include supporting someone to work, going on a family visit or a trip out hiking
Mike feels that the best thing about his role is seeing the people he supports progress and develop, as well as getting to know and work with their families too
Mike has had lots of training to support him in his current role, as well as support from his managers which has enabled him to learn from experienced staff within the team. He has recently gained a promotion and is happy in his current role
He has fun at work, his colleagues are like a second family and he has become a big part of the lives of the people he supports, he is really proud of everything they achieve
