Gary is an Assistant Team Leader working within the team at City Care Partnership (CCP) leading a team of staff who support individuals with learning disabilities and Autism
Gary was a police officer for 32 years before retiring from the force then initially worked as an insurance investigator for two years. Gary decided he wanted to work in social care to further his life skills and give something back to the community. Gary was introduced to CCP by a former colleague who explained that the organisation were a forward-thinking company, with great ideas to enhance the lives of the people they supported. Being successful in his application, Gary began his support work role with CCP
Gary and his team support one person in their own home and are there to help and guide him whenever he requires assistance, supporting his choices of activities which include shopping, visits to the beach, boat trips, hiking, swimming and walks in the park. Within his role Gary enjoys getting involved in the daily activities as well as finding the necessary time to complete administration duties to ensure his team meet the Care Quality Commission regulations. Gary really enjoys his role and prides himself in the fact that he’s able to assist people with learning disabilities and Autism to enjoy a better quality of life, and more importantly have a community presence with the same access to activities that the rest of society are able to enjoy
Gary feels that the best part of his role is the teamwork, having a team that shares his aspirations to improve the lives of the people they support, knowing they are doing a great job when he sees the person smiling and growing in confidence
Gary is happy in his current role and has enjoyed the training and support on offer at CCP, having passed a Diploma in Positive Behavioural Support, a L3 in Health and Social Care as well as completing an 18 month Apprentice Assistant Team Leader programme
