Gary is a Senior Commissioning Business Partner within the areas of mental health, learning disabilities and dementia, working within the CCG Performance and Delivery Team in partnership with Oldham Cares. Oldham Cares is a way of working, bringing together Oldham Council, NHS Oldham CCG and other health and social care providers in an Alliance to share skills, experience, talent and resources to deliver a better care experience for all
After successfully achieving a degree in languages, Gary began working within a private hospital as an administrator, quickly progressing to Business Manager within five years. Gary decided that he wanted to branch out with the experience he had gained to date and successfully gained the role within the NHS Commissioning Support Unit as a Senior Contract Manager. Gary was then successful in gaining the role of Commissioning Business Partner before progressing to Senior Business Partner within mental health, learning disabilities and dementia
Gary is responsible for managing various contracts to ensure they are performing and meeting targets, as well as being delivered in line with the service specifications. Within his role Gary has to ensure services are commissioned to a level that they will be able to deliver against targets set, as well as providing a safe and effective service. Gary is also involved in service redesign and transformation across Greater Manchester, this involves him working with provider partners to create the business case ensuring the development is beneficial to the Oldham population and value for money. Gary works within healthcare; however he is involved in a number of different areas connected to social care within his role, regularly working in partnership with social care providers and Oldham Council
Gary feels that the best thing about his role is that he is continuously working on improving the mental health services within Oldham and feels like he is doing his best to make a difference for the mental wellbeing for the people of Oldham
Gary enjoys his current role and is looking forward to progressing further within his career ; he would very much like to have more accountability for budgets and decision making and with his experience to date he has a number of options to consider
