Who’s this?

Sophie is a Complex Case Officer, working as part of the team within Oldham Council. As part of her role Sophie deals with complex cases that come into the team as well as managing a team of client finance assistants

What’s the story of their career to date?

Upon leaving school Sophie gained a position at a mortgage company upon completion of an apprenticeship in business and administration quickly progressed into a senior role within the same company. Sophie moved on to a number of other positions within finance before beginning her employment with Oldham Council initially as an agency member of staff completing financial assessments. Sophie successfully gained a permanent position within the same role and competently carried out this role for a number of years before successfully gaining her current role as a Complex Case Officer

What do they do?

Sophie has a caseload of complex cases and the variations of the cases means that no day is the same for her. As part of her role Sophie deals with email and telephone correspondence daily as well as visiting properties across Oldham for a number of reasons which can involve cases of financial abuse. Unfortunately some properties can be in a state of neglect in which case it is Sophie’s responsibility to arrange for the property to be cleaned and put on the housing market to sell on behalf of her clients. Sophie also meets with clients face to face in regards to financial assessments where clients are in receipt of a chargeable service and has supported work flows when financial assessments are required to ensure referrals are made at the earliest possible stage. As part of her managerial role, Sophie carries out supervisions and supports the team of staff that she manages. The experience that Sophie has gained to date massively supports her within her current role

What’s the best thing about their role?

Sophie feels that the best thing about her role is being able to help and support people in the local community who do not have the capacity to take care of their own assets. Sophie is pleased to work in her current role as she has the experience to do this efficiently and really loves the job she that she does each day

Where are they going from here?

Sophie would like complete a number of courses in the future to support her further within her role and feels that she has already had a large amount of support from her management team at the Council in her career to date
