Lisa - Client Finance Team Manager

Who’s this?

Lisa is a Team Manager working for Oldham Council and manages the client finance team. This department manages the finances of adults living in Oldham who lack the capacity to manage their own finances or who are vulnerable to financial abuse. Lisa’s team supports service users to budget their finances correctly to ensure they don’t get into debt; this includes paying bills on behalf of the service user, paying them a weekly allowance, managing property sales or rentals and investment management.

What’s the story of their career to date?

Lisa began her career with the NHS in a non-patient facing role, before changing roles and working for the council as a client finance officer, progressing to team leader and then successfully gaining her current role as Team Manager

What do they do?

Lisa manages a team of 13 members of staff; with service users referred to her team via a social worker. Lisa’s team apply to be the client’s appointee deputy in order to support them with their finances via the Court of Protection. Lisa’s team also completes financial assessments on behalf of the council under the Care Act 14, protection of property visits and manage the contract funeral budget. As part of her role Lisa carries out supervisions and one to ones with her team, as well as ensuring that the right case load is allocated to members of her team. Lisa also monitors budgets and attends safe guarding meetings for clients as well as ensuring service priorities and performance levels are met. Lisa represents the North West within APAD (Association of Public Authority Deputies) and liaises with stakeholders within Court of Protection and Office of the Public Guardian

What’s the best thing about their role?

Lisa feels that the best part of her role is working with service users; she really enjoys the interaction and is proud of the tremendous support that her team give to their clients on a daily basis; making a positive change to their lives

Where are they going from here?

Lisa feels that as she has progressed in her role, the experience she has gained has massively supported her. During her career with the council, Lisa has been supported in her progression and has also been given the opportunity to gain qualifications in areas of accountancy, management and lots of other opportunities to support her career aspirations. Lisa is currently completing a level 7 in Management and once completed will look further into the next steps for her career
