Who’s this?

Linda is a Strategy Officer working as part of the operational change team at Oldham Council. Linda develops policies, procedures and strategies for adult social care which she reviews annually making amendments where necessary to reflect any changes in case law and legislation, ensuring the organisation remains legislatively compliant

What’s the story of their career to date?

Whilst studying a degree in psychology, Linda began working for Oldham Council as a Community Mental Health Support worker, upon successfully achieving her degree Linda continued in this role for over 12 years. Whilst considering a change in career, Linda happened to be redeployed into a completely different area of work within the brokerage and payment department introducing her to a new area of work which she excelled in. Linda gain lots more experience and responsibilities as well as completing a number of beneficial training packages and qualifications within this role, before successfully gaining her current role of Strategy Officer

What do they do?

As part of her role, Linda manages and develops adult social care policies for any events, case law and legislation changes that could impact on the service. Linda is involved in a number of projects currently running which involves her in the organisation of workgroups with relevant colleagues to ensure that the policies she produces are capturing all that they should. Linda is currently focusing on a major project within adult social care, therefore has to continuously prioritise meetings and work schedules. Another part of Linda’s role involves lots of research to update her understanding which in turn enables her to disseminate this information by developing and writing policies

What’s the best thing about their role?

Linda feels that the best thing about her role is contributing to the community of Oldham and making a difference. Linda really enjoys the variety of work this role brings

Where are they going from here?

Linda feels that she has been fully supported by the Head of Service in her career development, having had the opportunity to undertake many training courses and is looking forward to the next step in her career progression
