Wendy is a senior working for a social enterprise that supports vulnerable people to live the life they choose. Wendy’s role involves her managing a supported living house that is manned by staff 24 hours a day and is the home to 3 ladies with a number of different conditions including learning disabilities, mental health conditions and challenging behaviours
Wendy has always worked in care, beginning her career as a health care assistant before progressing onto working in a nursing home and eventually working with people with learning disabilities and has worked in this area for over 15 years. Wendy has worked as a support worker before gaining her current role as a senior
As part of her role, Wendy manages a team of personal assistants who support the ladies in their home; Wendy is responsible for the budget of the Individual Service Fund for each lady. Wendy is responsible for the day to day running of the house as well as the finance and payment of household bills. Wendy ensures all risk assessments are carried out and that medication has been given, as well as observing staff to ensure they are competent in their area of work, arranging training were needed. As a senior Wendy also has a lot of patient contact which she really enjoys, regularly covering shifts and supporting with medication and personal care. As an additional role, Wendy is a Positive Behaviour Management Trainer supporting colleagues and service users ensuring that essential knowledge and understanding is in place to respond appropriately to challenging behaviour
Wendy feels that the best part of her role is the fact that she is still able to still have contact with service users and that she makes a difference to someone’s life every day
Wendy feels that she has had lots of support during her career in social care, being given the opportunity to train as a Positive Behaviour Management Trainer and also completing Btec National Diplomas in health and social care and management and is really happy to continue in her current role
