Niki is a Farm Manager working for a social enterprise that supports vulnerable people to live the life they choose and forms part of the day services team. She looks after the farm animals and provides access to support people with learning disabilities and mental health conditions, to work alongside animals on the farm and in the wellbeing garden, which has beneficial factors and promotes wellbeing
Niki has a brother with learning disabilities and being a carer for her brother encouraged her to decide on a career supporting people with learning disabilities. She has worked in lots of different areas such as supported living, mental health and day services, before taking on her current role of Farm Manager
The farm currently has pigs, hens, reptiles, a parrot, goats, a horse, ducks, guinea pigs and rabbits. As part of her role Niki supports people to actively work on the farm with the opportunity to gain a certificate in small animal care. She oversees the work that needs to be done on a daily basis, allowing the farm workers to take responsibility of the day to day tasks. Niki orders all stock and feeds for the animals as well as ensuring the correct protective clothing is worn and that the farm is accessible for the public to visit
Niki feels that the best thing about her role is the rapport that she has with the people she works with and seeing how their characters grow in confidence each day
Niki really enjoys her role and has completed lots of valuable training during her career including mental health training and end of life care. She is looking forward to continuing in her current role supporting the people that she works with further
