What’s the story of their career to date?

Alan’s first role in the NHS was as a Security Guard at Pendlebury Children’s Hospital, he then progressed onto become Head Porter. His valuable knowledge and experience supported his career move to Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust. Alan joined SRFT as the Portering Site Service Manager, this provided Alan with new opportunities and he was successful in gaining the role of Logistics Manager

What do they do?

Alan manages both the Transport and Portering departments and has introduced a bespoke renal (kidneys) service for SRFT at four satellite sites which has vastly improved the renal patient’s experience. At the moment Alan’s main responsibility is working in conjunction with Pennine Acute Trust to assess any services that could be streamlined in Portering and Transport to improve both patient flow and reduce costs

What is the best part about their role?

Alan really enjoys his role as no two days are the same. He is proud of his accomplishments as he has made a difference to patients experience and helped the trust reduce costs. He values the experience he has gained in his career, having exposure to many different roles and people over the years has helped Alan gain problem solving skills which supported him as he integrated the Transport and Portering services
