Who’s this?

Jas is a Technical Support Engineer working in the Medical Equipment Management Services team at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust (SRFT).

What’s the story of their career to date?

Upon leaving school Jas went to college and gained Level 3 BTEC National Diploma in electrical and electronic engineering. Jas then decided to look into an apprenticeship as opposed to going on to university and was successful in gaining his current apprenticeship position with SRFT.

What do they do?

Each day Jas prioritises the equipment that needs to be serviced or repaired, ensuring this is completed and the equipment is returned back to the relevant departments as soon as possible. Jas works on a variety of different medical equipment which includes tympanic thermometers, sphygmomanometers, nebulisers and cardiovascular equipment. Jas also spends time learning to understand other pieces of equipment in regards to how it works and its use with patients. By doing this Jas is able to gain both technical and clinical knowledge to enable him to understand the equipment much better.

What is the best part about their role?

Jas feels that the best part of his role is being able to provide a service that enables hospital equipment to work correctly enabling it to be used efficiently by the hospital teams. Jas also really enjoys working on high tech pieces of equipment and understanding how they work both technically and in a clinical environment.

Where are they going from here?

Jas is looking forward to developing his skills in engineering and is prepared to work hard to enable him to progress in the NHS if the opportunity arises for him.
