Jake is a Porter and works within the Support Services and Facilities Team at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust (SRFT)
Jake has worked at as a casual bar tender for a number of years but felt that this work was repetitive and decided it was time to make a change in his career. Jake found the Princes Trust Organisation online www.princes-trust.org.uk and felt this could be the opportunity he needed to gain some healthcare experience. As part of the programme Jake completed a six weeks work experience placement as a Porter and has since successfully gained a permanent position as a porter at SRFT
Jake’s main daily duties include transporting patients within the hospital to wards and departments as needed; this is done using chairs, trolleys or beds. Sometimes Jake takes the meal tanks to the wards at patient meal times, transporting the tank back to the kitchen area once the patients have eaten. At times, Jake also has the responsibility of taking patients to the mortuary, respecting this journey for the patient when doing so
Jake enjoys being active, and loves the fact that his role involves him being on his feet all day! Jake feels that the most important part of his role is caring for the patients, and enjoys chatting to them along their journey. Jake enjoys working with the staff within the Facilities Team, as the environment is friendly and welcoming and Jake now feels that he has a worthwhile career
