Who’s this?

Angela is the Community Fundraising Manager within Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust Charity, predominantly fundraising for Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity as well as all the other hospitals within Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust

What’s the story of their career to date?

After leaving school, Angela studied a Btec in Public Administration and A -levels in Business and Government & Politics as it interested her and she wasn’t sure what she wanted to do at this point in regards to her career. Angela then chose to do a degree in Retail Marketing in Manchester, mainly for the music scene in the city at this time. Angela worked in public relations for some time before moving her career to work in the arts industry for 16 years. Angela decided that she would like to work for the NHS and applied for the role of Charities Officer six years ago and has successfully progressed within her career through hard work and commitment to gain her current role of Community Fundraising Manager in 2013

What do they do?

Angela manages a team of people; every day is different and fast paced but the main responsibility is to offer a great service to the donors. Other responsibilities include sending thank you letters to all of the donors, ensuring that fundraisers are aware of all the relevant legislation in regards to fundraising, supporting them in raising as much money as possible for the hospital of their choice. Angela has a lot of email and telephone correspondence and regularly goes out to the community to visit supporters and fundraising events which means her working hours can sometimes be unsociable but worth it as she really enjoys going out and supporting such events. Angela has targets that she needs to meet, managing budgets and forecasting, as well as writing a strategy to develop the work that her team currently does. Angela believes that you really need to be a people person to do this role and also need to be passionate about the cause

What’s the best thing about their role?

Angela feels that the best part of her role is meeting such amazing fundraisers in the community, meeting people from all walks of life

Where are they going from here?

Angela is really happy within her role as it challenges her and keeps her motivated, having a really amazing charity team to work with. In the future Angela would be happy to look at a promotion as part of her career progression
