All About Me - PowerPoint Template

This presentation template is designed for NHS staff who are presenting to groups of learners. It has a number of sample slides that you might like to use when presenting and includes advice on how to structure and improve your presentation. The template starts with a few pieces of key advice followed by the sample slides and is designed to be adapted by any NHS staff or NHS Careers Ambassadors prior to an engagement session.

Bridge GM

Bridge GM is an engagement website and toolkit for Greater Manchester’s employers, education professionals and training providers. Alongside supporting GM’s business community to work more closely with our schools and colleges and vice versa, the site contains useful local labor market information and support on how to bring this into curriculum time. Bridge GM also hosts best practice case studies, regular news articles and a large resource directory of reputable organisations that support schools to develop their CEIAG and employer engagement offer.

Careers Hub Role Profiles

The Careers Hub team have worked closely with our partners to create lots of profiles of current members of NHS staff. The profiles will tell you about the role they perform, what they get paid and what their career journey has been so far. You can also download the profiles to print and some contain links to video interviews. These are great tools to take along to careers events and showcase the variety of jobs available in the NHS.

Find professional resources relating to different areas of occupational therapy (OT) practice to support professional development, as well as a variety of leaflets and evidence based fact sheets to use in practice. There are also lots of tips to support the promotion of the OT profession to learners as well as a professional library services , resources and specialist publications for members of the site.

This video from the Cleveland Clinic in the United States gives a great introduction to the different feelings and perspectives of patients and staff in a healthcare setting. This is a useful video to get learners thinking about the complexity of interactions in healthcare settings and the need to think about what others might be going through.

A great little resource that encourages interaction between a group whilst also carrying out a practical activity, helping you to promote NHS job roles as well as the Step into the NHS website. The paper fortune teller predicts your future health career and is part of a campaign toolkit to promote the Step into the NHS website to young people

Future Proof Employer Resources

Business in the Community’s Future Proof Campaign, backed by the City & Guilds Group, helps employers to make their employment opportunities more accessible to young people. To support this, BITC have developed a set of practical resources for employers that cover inspiring young people about the world of work, making recruitment processes accessible to all young people, and progressing young employees in the workplace. These resources are available on the Future Proof website and include a range practical ‘how to’ guides and best practice case studies. Topics include offering work experience, attracting diverse young candidates, apprenticeships, recruiting for potential instead of experience and providing youth-friendly inductions. Case studies feature employers including Barclays, Whitbread, British Gas, EE, BBC and Costain.

GM Careers Hub Evaluation Form

For ambassadors conducting a classroom session or workshop its a great idea to evaluate the activity as feedback from learners can help you understand what works and what doesn't. This generic form can be printed and handed to learners at the end of sessions to gauge their feelings and impressions.

The Health Careers Website provides a great resource for anyone thinking about a career in healthcare. They have descriptions of 100s of different types of jobs in the NHS as well as information on how to train or progress into those roles. This is great place to find out about the options available and what is required. As well as role descriptions the site has career planning sections and personal stories and accounts from NHS staff. For those who want to find out about what they could do in the future or learn more about what they need to achieve their goals this a fantastic starting point.

Heath Careers - Patient Journey

Developed by Health Education England in the North East, ‘A patient journey’ is a toolkit that can be used across the curriculum at key stages three and four. By exploring the range of NHS roles that help patients in their care, the easy-to-use toolkit provides teachers with everything they need to deliver informative lessons with confidence. Accompanying the resources are 18 films, each exploring a different role in health.

The HHE Health Ambassador website is a really useful resource for NHS Career Ambassadors, giving general resources to support activities and engagement with learners. Ice Breaker Ideas

This is a link to some ideas for 'ice breaker' activities on the Health Careers website. Ice breakers are really beneficial to energise, motivate and encourage young people to work together; they often work well at the start of presentations. Some of the ideas given are suitable for sitting, whilst others are table-top activities and there are also some more energetic ones for moving around.

M.D.T. Role Play Scenario

This activity aims to give learners insight into the concept of Multi-disciplinary Teams which are a key feature in how modern healthcare is delivered. Learners take each take on a different role and are challenged to come up with a safe discharge plan for a fictional patient. Try or share the NHS ‘Values for healthcare’ challenge e-tool which has been developed for anyone who is thinking of applying for a support role [Bands 1-4] in the NHS in order that they can assess how well their values match the 6 NHS Constitution Values. You can choose any one of the 4 support worker job roles featured in the Values for healthcare challenge, it doesn’t have to match the type of job role you are aiming for or thinking about.

Who am I? - Match Card Activity

This simple activity works well in a classroom setting. Learners are given a picture of an NHS staff member and have to match them to their job title and duties. The activity takes about half an hour and can be done on its own or as part of a longer presentation or workshop.
